2023 Seniors Wellness Fair - Speakers

  • 11 AM - Dementia 101 OR Don't Say the "D-Word": Where to start when it comes to dementia by Emily Edwards

Emily Edwards RN BScN (founder & creator of The Good Birth Co. & Dementia Doula School) is an expert in the dementia care space. As a former Psychogeriatric Resource Consultant, Long Term Care Behavioural Supports Coordinator, and RN Team Lead for a specialized dementia care squad, her knowledge of older adult mental health and dementia is expansive. But more importantly she has an immense gift for taking tough topics and breaking them into pieces small enough to explore with kindness and curiosity. She helps people understand the complex dynamics in healthcare in a way that they can take action on.

As a parent to 3 growing kids, a spouse to a retired Canadian Forces veteran, and an adventurous spirit; Emily brings a spark to healthcare we’ve all been missing.

  • 1 PM - Downsizing Solutions by Mary Dilly

Mary has been a resident of Burlington since 1990. Her career has spanned from a legal assistant to events/fundraising/marketing and advertising. Her 40+ years of event planning have given her experience and logistical, time, and project management skills. Mary has been the sole organizer of an annual Christmas Day Dinner since 2006. Her attention to detail in the planning and execution – from fundraising, working with volunteers, food, and presents for approximately 500 guests – ensures the success of this tremendous endeavour each year. Mary has been helping families to downsize for years. She enjoys the challenge of dispersing items compassionately while donating to worthwhile local charities. The main priority for Mary is keeping things out of the landfill.

  • 2 PM - Fraud Prevention by Shannon Whittaker from Royal Bank of Canada

Shannon is currently the Branch Manager at Bloor West Village Branch RBC with 14 years in the financial industry. Enjoys being out in the community supporting different causes and helping RBC clients and communities prosper.
